Easter Ride in Transylvania –
Pure Nature and Mountain Magic
As spring slowly takes hold in the Romanian Carpathians, the wild mountain world awakens from its winter slumber – along with a unique adventure on horseback. Gentle hills, dew-fresh meadows, and the first songs of birds accompany your trail rides through untouched nature and traditional alpine pastures.
Whether you are a beginner or an experienced rider, here you will experience the authentic mountain atmosphere up close. On horseback, you’ll travel through still-sleeping valleys, past bubbling mountain streams, and the first tentative signs of spring such as crocuses and pussy willows. The clear mountain air, the gentle babbling of the streams, and the rhythmic clatter of hooves make this riding holiday an unforgettable experience.
After a day full of nature’s delights, rustic comfort awaits you: relax in our wood-fired hot tub filled with pleasantly warm saltwater, or let the warmth of our two on-site saunas soothe you.
On Holy Saturday, the great Easter bonfire blazes – a magical moment under the clear starry sky of the Carpathians, marking the festive end of a long winter.
Your nights are spent in cozy, stove-heated rooms of our historic guesthouse, which keeps the region’s traditions alive with its original charm and heartfelt hospitality.

Five exciting days in a colourful spring landscape.
Curious what awaits you?
Here’s a little glimpse into our special Easter trail ride program in the heart of the Romanian Carpathians:
Day 1 – Arrival & Immersion in Nature
After arriving individually in Gheorgheni, your adventure begins with an off-road drive through the Eastern Carpathians. The destination: our Hipparion Trail Riding Ranch, nestled deep in the mountains, surrounded by nothing but raw nature. With a bit of luck, we may spot deer, a capercaillie—or even a bear along the way.
Once at the ranch, our wood-fired hot tub filled with soothing saltwater offers the perfect welcome and recovery from the journey.
After meeting the horses and settling into your cozy rooms, our cook Brigitta serves you a delicious, traditional Szekler-style dinner in the rustic log house.
Day 2 – First Ride & Alpine Pasture Life
After a hearty local breakfast, we head to the paddock to fetch the horses. Once groomed and saddled, and after a short introduction, we set off:
Our route takes us through dense spruce forests, down into the valley, across a small mountain stream, and along gentle hills. Although the meadows haven’t fully bloomed yet, early signs of spring—fresh herbs and crocuses—peek through the ground. After about two hours, we reach a mountain cheesery where we take our lunch break.
We return via open alpine pastures, arriving back at the ranch after roughly an hour.
After tending to the horses, it’s time to relax: soak in the hot tub with a glass of red wine while watching the sun set over glowing mountain peaks, enjoy a book by the fire, or simply rest as you please.
Dinner on Good Friday: fresh trout, prepared over an open flame.
Riding time: approx. 4 hours
Day 3 – Day Ride to the “Little Sipos” Peak
Today’s ride takes us past remote farms and into the valley to the spring of the Olt River—Romania’s second-longest. Our horses drink from the crystal-clear water, and we refill our bottles before ascending into the forest.
The trail climbs steeply through old spruce woods, interrupted by light-filled clearings. At 1,450 meters, we take our lunch break on a grassy spot with panoramic views over the Kovács Péter valley and the surrounding mountain ridges.
In the evening, we light our traditional Easter bonfire – a magical moment beneath the Carpathian stars.
Riding time: approx. 4.5 hours
Day 4 – Easter Sunday: Egg Hunt on Horseback
A true Easter highlight: our Easter egg hunt on horseback!
We ride along winding paths, into the forest and across hidden trails, always on the lookout for surprises hidden along the way.
The ride leads uphill through clear mountain streams and soft meadows to a small mountain chapel. Maybe it’s time for your first canter? Once at the top, we join an ecumenical Easter service.
Afterward, we enjoy freshly baked Easter bread and coffee together in front of the chapel.
In the evening: our traditional stuffed Easter lamb – a local delicacy!
Riding time: approx. 4 hours
Day 5 – Into the High Mountains
Today’s ride takes us into the Nagy Hășmaș Mountains, a true highlight of the week. Vast mountain plateaus, jagged limestone peaks, and breathtaking panoramas await.
At around 1,600 meters, we stop for lunch on an open plateau. From here, we enjoy sweeping views over the Hășmaș range and the Bicaz Gorge, with the dramatic “Killer Lake” in the distance.
The soft ground on the way back invites us to a few final canters, framed by the majestic mountain scenery.
Riding time: approx. 5 hours
Day 6 – Farewell to the Mountains
After a final breakfast together, our off-road vehicle takes you safely back down to Gheorgheni, where your individual journey home begins—carrying with you memories of a truly unforgettable Easter adventure.
