Tour description

1st day:

After your arrival in Gheorgheni, we will take you on an adventurous off-road ride: In our van we will take you to our Hipparion Ranch, which is remotely located in the Eastern Carpathian Mountains. With a little luck we might spot a deer, a capercaillie bird or even a bear. Once you have arrived on our ranch, you can unwind after your long journey by immersing yourself in the warm salt water of our Hot Pot. After having familiarized yourself with our horses and moving into your room, our cook Brigitta, will indulge you with an original Szekler dinner, in our rustic log cabin.

2nd day

After a hearty breakfast in the log cabin, your first ride awaits you today. You will get to know your horse and the equipment and will receive a brief introduction to our riding style and will be familiarized with our safety rules.

Afterwards we saddle up the horses and ride along hidden forest paths into the valley, where we follow a romantic little trail that leads us through streams until we finally reach our first route for a little test gallop.

We rest on a small peak at around 1400 meters, which offers us a beautiful view of the valley of Gheorgheni

Back to the farm we initially gallop, then the riding pace slows down again and we reach our neighbor with his herd of buffalo, which we ride through.

We lead the horses down the last steep section to Hipparion Ranch.

After we have looked after the horses, there is coffee and cake in the dining room.

In the evening we sit down together again over dinner and discuss the most important points of our adventure in more detail.

As always, after the meal: sauna and hot pot are available. The next few days will be long and challenging for the muscles, so you can really pamper yourself again today.

Riding time: about 4 hours in the saddle, including about 20 minutes on foot

3rd day

Today we start our adventure:

After breakfast we saddle our horses, pack up the kitchen utensils, as well as our tents, sleeping bags and sleeping pads.

We load everything onto our packhorse and set off after drinking a coffee in the dining room.

Today our route takes us first to the main ridge of the Carpathians, past the “Lo Havas”, at the summit of the Csofronka to the meadow of “Tunzeria” from where we have a great view of the “Bicaz Gorge” and the “Red Lake” (Lacu Ross) during our lunch break.

From there we lead the horses downhill to a high mountain pasture, where we have a beautiful gallop ahead of us after we get out.

Then we follow small trails to the “White Meadow” in the Hasmas National Park.

Here we set up camp for the night next to a spring.

While the horses graze peacefully around us, we start preparing for dinner and set up our tents.

We spend the evening by the fire talking about “God and the world” and enjoying the starry sky above our tents.

Riding time: around 4 hours, including around 15 minutes on foot

4th day

After getting up and having breakfast by the fire, a long day awaits us today;

We pack up our tents and load the packhorse again.

Today we first go across the vastness of the “White Meadow” where the shepherds spend the summer with their animals in the summer months.

We might also meet one of the free-roaming herds of horses that live wild up here during the warm months of the year.

And of course the soft grass of the plateau invites us to a brisk gallop.

Then it goes steeply downhill into the valley, the horses have to be led in parts.

Once we reach the bottom, we climb back up and first pass Leonardo Bereczky, who runs a bear orphanage here in the woods.

Then it goes through dense forests on hidden paths to the plain of “Log Nyereg”. Here we have another beautiful, long gallop through the forest ahead of us.

Finally we reach the plateau of “Fekete Rez”, our camp for the night.

Today we sleep next to a dairy and in the evening we can visit the shepherds milking by hand and of course try the handmade cheese.

Riding time: around 7 hours, including around 1 hour on foot

5th day

After another breakfast at the campsite we make our way back to Hipparion Ranch.

It goes through spruce forests, where you can sometimes see bears, to the summit of the “Big Sipos” (1568 m). At the top we take a break and once again have a picturesque view over the mountains.

The route back to the farm mainly takes you through the forest, but there is also the occasional canter option.

Via the source of the “Olt” river we finally reach the Hipparion Farm, where our cook Brigitta is waiting for us with fresh cake and homemade blueberry liqueur.

After three days through the wilderness, a hot shower awaits us.

Afterwards there is dinner and if you want, you can pamper your muscles in the sauna or hot pot.

Riding time: about 4 hours, including 30 minutes on foot

6th day

If you want, you can book an additional day on the farm and relax to your heart’s content today. Sauna, hot pot, sleep in, just enjoy the atmosphere at the Hipparion trail riding farm.

For everyone else it’s time to say goodbye today. After breakfast, our off-road vehicle will take you safely back into the valley to Gheorgheni, from where you will begin your individual journey home.
